National Debt
One of the longest-lasting issues faced by the United States is the money it owes, or its public debt. Since the country's formation in 1789, it has had fluctuating levels of debt to lenders within the United States, as well as lenders outside of our borders. Interestingly enough, for about a year between 1835-1836, the United States paid off all of its debt under President Andrew Jackson!
